Jason Luong has over a decade of civil and criminal trial experience and has tried over 30 cases to jury verdict. While in civil practice, Mr. Luong represented clients (both plaintiffs and defendants) in a wide variety of legal matters, both large and small, ranging from complex commercial disputes to securities fraud investigations to personal injury claims. As an Assistant District Attorney for nearly four years, Mr. Luong handled a wide range of criminal cases ranging from 1st degree murder and drug cases felonies to misdemeanors DWI’s and assaults to juvenile cases.
Mr. Luong is a long time Houstonian. Mr. Luong graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics from Rice University in 1997. Mr. Luong then received his law degree, with honors, in 2000 from the University of Texas School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Luong interned with the Texas Supreme Court and with the Honorable Lynn Hughes, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas. Also while in law school, Mr. Luong was selected for membership to the prestigious Texas Law Review, where his student article was published by the Law Review and also awarded the Best Constitutional Law Note Award in 1999 and the Best Published Note Award in 2000.
Mr. Luong began his legal career as one of two law clerks to the Honorable Royal Furgeson, United States District Judge for the Western District of Texas. After his clerkship, Mr. Luong then worked at two of Houston’s most prestigious civil law firms, Beck, Redden & Secrest, L.L.P. and Smyser Kaplan & Veselka, L.L.P., where he represented corporations and individuals in complex civil litigation. In 2008, Mr. Luong took a hiatus from his civil practice to accept a position as an Assistant District Attorney with the Harris County District Attorney's Office. In his nearly four years with the D.A.'s office, Mr. Luong quickly rose through the ranks and became the Chief Prosecutor in two different County Criminal Courts at Law.
Throughout his legal career, Mr. Luong repeatedly has been recognized by his peers and clients as one of Houston's best young attorneys. In 2005, Jason was named by a leading Houston publication as a "Lawyer on the Fast Track" in the area of business litigation. In 2006, Mr. Luong was selected by his peers as a "Rising Star" in Texas Monthly Magazine in 2006 in the area civil litigation–an honor bestowed on less than 2% of licensed attorneys in Texas. The following year, in his first year as a prosecutor, Mr. Luong was recognized as a "Rising Star" in the area of criminal prosecution, where he was one of only two prosecutors with the Harris County D.A.'s office to be given this recognition.
Mr. Luong is also an active member of the Houston community. Mr. Luong has served with the Friends of Teach for America, chairing its city-wide school supply drive in 2004 and 2005. Mr. Luong is also active with the Asian American Bar Association, where he served as the chair of the AABA's 2004 and 2005 Gala & Silent Auction and as a member of the Board of Directors from 2007-2008. Mr. Luong is currently on the AABA’s Committee on Political Endorsements.
Mr. Luong attributes his success in and service to the law to his parents. Mr. Luong's father received his law degree in Vietnam and, upon immigrating to the United States, worked for the City of Houston for over 22 years. Mr. Luong's mother has worked for the Houston Police Department for over 15 years. Together his parents instilled within him a deep belief in justice, individual rights, and public service.
