Steven D. Shellist
Steven D. Shellist graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Texas, Austin in 1991. After working in the business world for a number of years, he made a life-changing decision to follow his dream of becoming a lawyer. He attended South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. Mr. Shellist was actively involved, and successful, in the school's Mock Trial program where he trained to become a trial lawyer. He was accepted to the Dean's List each semester and was an active member in the prestigious South Texas College of Law - Law Review, where he received the Vinson and Elkins' award for a challenging article he wrote. He also received the Dean's Citizenship Award for Significant Contributions to Benefit the College and Community of Law Students.
After law school, Mr. Shellist worked as an Assistant District Attorney. There he was responsible for prosecuting, among other crimes, family violence cases. He fought for victims and was responsible for seeking emergency protective orders and no-contact orders. After rising to the level of Chief Prosecutor at the county court level, he left the office to open his own firm. He now fights for those wrongly accused of family violence, child molestation, violations of protective orders and other family-related crimes. He also protects the rights of those who are victims of parental alienation.
Mr. Shellist is a founding partner of Capitaine, Shellist, Peebles and McAlister, L.L.P. He takes on a limited number of clients - those who wish to fight the other side to the fullest extent. Due to his training and experience as a Prosecutor, combined with the relationships that he has forged with Judges and lawyers alike, he has been able to achieve tremendous results for his clients. His strongest attributes are his deep analytical skills, his ability to think quickly on his feet, and, perhaps most importantly, his ability to persuade jurors to see things his way. Mr. Shellist is a trial attorney through and through.
