Staying Safe at Sea from Crimes on Cruises

HOUSTON - President Obama is expected to sign a bill into law to protect people and their families when they go on a cruise.

Attorney Steve Shellist explains how the proposed law will help cruise passengers stay safe at sea.

The law will mandate that crimes that take place on board a cruise ship will be reported to the proper authorities in an expedient manner.

Shellist recommends that people considering taking a cruise as a vacation option obtain travelers' insurance, avoid traveling alone, keep a list of American consulates/embassies in foreign countries, keep a phone number for the FBI handy and prepare a list of people to contact in the U.S. in case of an emergency.
